Joel Doiron 2012 Season in Review; Doiron Was in Championship Contention Throughout the Season at Cornwall Motor Speedway

The 2012 season was filled with some great moments for Joel Doiron and his family highlighted by his Dad, Ovide Doiron being elected into the DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame.  On the track, Doiron had a solid 2012 campaign that had him in championship contention at Cornwall Speedway throughout the season.

Doiron’s only weekly track was Cornwall Motor Speedway in 2012.  He started the year with a 12th place finish in the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified season opener.  Over the next couple months, he posted eight consecutive top ten finishes at Cornwall Speedway, and emerged as a serious contender for the championship late in the season.  He ended the season with nine top ten finishes and finished fourth overall in track points.  He also finished second in the Doiron Cup championship that tallied points for the qualifying heats each week and was eighth overall in the Canadian Nationals Series.

“We had a solid year at Cornwall this year.  We didn’t get a win this year, but we had some strong finishes, and remained in contention for the championship coming down to the final couple races”, says Doiron.  “We will continue to work hard and hopefully we will be even stronger next year”.

The highlight of the 2012 season came at Brockville Speedway in his only appearance at the track this season during the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified race during the Fall Nationals Weekend last month   He posted a strong third place finish with a great field of cars on hand for the season finale.

Joel Doiron Ends 2012 Season With Outstanding Top Three Finish in DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Race at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday Afternoon

Joel Doiron made the trip to Brockville Speedway on Saturday afternoon for the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals.  This would be Joel’s final race of the 2012 racing season, and he was hoping to close out the year with a strong finish.  Joel had a strong season overall, remaining in contention for the Cornwall Speedway track title for most of season, before finishing the season fourth overall.

The first order of business on Saturday afternoon was time trials, and Doiron posted a great lap, placing him second in his group, earning a front row starting spot in his qualifying heat race.  Doiron finished the eight lap qualifier in second, picking up a valuable spot in the redraw for a top 10 starting spot in the 100 lap main event.  By luck of the draw, Joel picked starting spot number two, and started the race from outside the front row.  By lap 25 he was maintaining a top five position, and continued to battle alongside the sports best drivers throughout the race.  Over the final dozen laps of the race, several drivers had tire issues, but Doiron was able to maintain his position, and climbed back up to third before the checkered flag.  After the race, Doiron’s right rear tire had no tread remaining, making his run even more remarkable with no grip towards the end of the race.

“We had a great day today here at the BOS. This is a strong way to finish out our 2012 season”, says Doiron after the race.  “We had a lot of fun battling up front with these guys that race for a living, and it sure gives us a great feeling going into the long off-season”.

Our racing efforts for the 2012 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. “I really can’t thank our sponsors, everyone that helps work on this car all year long, and my family for all of their support”, adds Doiron.  “We look forward to coming back as strong as ever in 2013”.

Joel Doiron Didn’t Have the Labor Day Weekend That He Was Hoping For at Mohawk International Raceway and Season Finale at Cornwall Speedway

With the 2012 regular season now in the books, Doiron can reflect on his season at Cornwall Motor Speedway.  He had a strong year, contending for the championship right up until the end of the season, and finished the year fourth overall in the track points, and eighth in the Canadian Nationals Series.  In addition to the season finale at Cornwall this past weekend, Doiron also raced at Mohawk International Raceway on a rare Thursday night for their 50 lap Frenchie’s Series race.

Doiron made just his third appearance of the 2012 season at Mohawk Raceway on Thursday night, but didn’t have much luck right from the beginning.  He had a poor draw that put him at the rear of the field for his heat race, and he struggled throughout the race.  He started the 50 lap main event from deep in the field in 22nd place and despite the adjustments they made after the heat races, Doiron continued to struggle.  He finished the race with a 15th place finish.

At Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night, Joel timed fourth fastest in his group, placing his fourth to start his qualifying heat race.  He was able to race his way up to second place, locking himself into the redraw for a top 12 starting spot for the night’s 125 lap 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series main event.  He would draw position number four and started the race from that position.  He was strong over the first 25 laps of the race, but the handling started to go away on the car, and when the race reached the scheduled 75 lap break he had fell out of the top ten.  With a 10 minute break for teams to make adjustments to the car and change tires, Doiron’s crew went to work, trying to dial the car in for the final 50 laps.  When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Joel crossed the line with an 11th place finish.

“It certainly wasn’t the weekend that we were hoping for”, says Doiron.  “It was a struggle at both tracks.  We have a couple weeks before we race again at Mohawk so we will go to work and trying to get the car working better”.

As mentioned, Doiron will return to Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday, September 15th for their season finale.  It will be a Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series race.  Following the race at MIR, the rest of the 2012 schedule is unclear.  Doiron does hope to attend the Fall Nationals at Brockville in October.

Joel Doiron to Wrap up 2012 Regular Season at Cornwall Motor Speedway With 125 Lap Season Finale; Returns to Mohawk Raceway on Thursday Night

It is almost implausible that the 2012 racing season has reached its final weekend of the regular season.  Joel Doiron and his team have had a great season so far, but would like nothing more to find victory lane before the final checkered flag flies to signify the end of the year.  Doiron has had a strong year, and still mathematically remains in contention for the coveted Cornwall Speedway championship, but faces and uphill battle with 30 points to make up on the final night.

Regardless of his points position, Doiron has had a good year with top five finishes in half the races he entered at Cornwall this season, and three more top ten finishes.  He remained in contention all season long for the championship and while the he hasn’t got a win yet this season, he will continue to seek that over the final weekend with races at Mohawk Raceway on Thursday night for a 50 lap Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series race, and again at Cornwall Speedway for the 125 lap Canadian Nationals/Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series event.

“We had a rough night there a couple weeks ago and that really hurt our chances in points.  We are not going to give up, we are going to go out and try to win the race, and gain the most points we can”, says Doiron.  “Everything else is out of our control”.

This past week at Cornwall started out well for Doiron, picking up the win in his qualifying heat race.  He started sixth in the 30 lap feature and slid back to seventh through the first half of the race.  Over the final ten laps, he was able to make up some ground and finished with a solid fourth place result..

This coming weekend, Doiron will be at Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York for their Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” 358 Modified 50 lap Series race.  Sunday night, he will be at Cornwall Speedway for the final time this season as they host a 125 lap Canadian Nationals/Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series race.

“Its going to be a big weekend of racing, and we are looking forward to getting back to Mohawk Raceway once again”, says Doiron.  “We will wrap up the season at Cornwall on Sunday, and then determine a schedule for the remaining races in 2012”.

Most of the 2012 racing season has gone well for Joel Doiron and his team, but the last two weeks they have been a victim of bad luck that has all but eliminated them from championship contention. Last week it was an early race incident that left that team with a disheartening 18th place finish and this past Sunday Doiron had a right front tire going soft late in the race that resulted in falling out of the top five in the 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race.

The night started well for Doiron, setting fast time in his time trial group, earning a front row starting spot for his heat race. Doiron won the heat, and would redraw for a top 12 starting spot for the 100 lap main event. Just prior to the race, Doiron would draw position number five and would fire from the inside of row three. Doiron held a top five position for the first three-quarters of the race, but faded over the final few laps. Come to find out that the right front tire had been losing air.

“We had a great run going all race, holding our own amongst the top five”, says Doiron. “It is disappointing that we couldn’t get the finish that we had hoped, but that’s racing. We will try again this week, and hopefully we can get a win before the season ends”.

Doiron will be back in action this Sunday night at Cornwall with their final regular race of 2012. They will close out the season on September 2nd with the Canadian Nationals 125 lap finale. The rest of Doiron’s 2012 schedule is still up in the air after Labor Day Weekend. They do plan to run the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Race at Mohawk Raceway on Saturday, September 15th, and also hope to participate in the Northeast Fall Nationals at Brockville Speedway in October.

Joel Doiron Has Frustrating Night at Cornwall After Getting Caught Up in Early Race Wreck; Looking Ahead to 100 Lap Canadian Nationals Race This Sunday

Entering the night at Cornwall Motor Speedway, Joel Doiron was tied for first place in the battle for the track championship in the 358 Modified division.  He was hoping for a strong run to put him on top of the standings with three races remaining in the 2012 season at Cornwall.

The night started out well for Doiron, winning his qualifying heat race in dramatic fashion crossing the finish line just inches ahead of the second place car.  In the 30 lap main event though, Doiron’s night took a drastic turn, which caused a significant impact on his bid for the title.  He started the race from the 10th position, and was making some progress early in the race, but on lap nine, Doiron was caught up in a wreck that developed in front of him, leaving him with front end damage.  He did return to the track, but would have to settle for a very disappointing 18th place finish.

“We are not going to give up, that is for sure, but this definitely hurt our chances for the championship”, says Doiron after the race.  “We will be back next week, and hopefully we can fight our way back into this thing over the final three weeks”.

Doiron will be back in action this Sunday night at Cornwall as they host a 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race.  This is race number two in the series, which was originally scheduled for August 5th before track officials had to postpone due to rain.  He will return to Cornwall again the following week for the final regular night at the track before closing out the season on September second with the Canadian Nationals final on Sunday, September 2nd.

Joel Doiron’s Top Five Finish Puts Him at the Top of the Standings at Cornwall Motor Speedway With One Month Remaining in 2012 Season

After posting his eighth straight top ten finish at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night, Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based 358 Modified team have moved to the top of the standings as they battle for the coveted championship with just one more month remaining in the 2012 season. Doiron and one other competitor are tied for first place overall. Although he is still looking for that first win of the year, Doiron has been very consistent, and that is the key to the team’s success as the attempt to win the Cornwall title for the first time since the 2002 season.

Doiron started the night off well at Cornwall on Sunday night, picking up the win in his qualifying heat race after starting from outside the front row. In the 30 lap main event, he started from seventh place, and drove a solid race, moving up the leaderboard steadily. He ended the night with a strong third place finish.

“The car was pretty good tonight”, we just need to be a little better to contend for the win”, says Doiron. “It was a great points day for us, so we will take it and move on to next week”.

This coming week will be a 100 lap Canadian National Series event at Cornwall Motor Speedway. This is round two of the series, and Joel will be looking to improve on his 12th place finish in the last series race back on opening night at Cornwall.

Joel Doiron Battles to a Hard Fought Top Ten Finish at Cornwall Speedway

It definitely has been a consistent season for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario team, and consistency is a very key ingredient in the chase for the championship, but Doiron cant help but want a little more as he strives to get back to victory lane at Cornwall Speedway for the first time since taking the feature almost one year to the day.

The qualifying heat race didn’t go as planned for Joel, struggling to find his groove early. A flat tire early in the race sent Doiron to the pits, but after a quick pit stop, he was able to return to the track and rebound for a third place finish. In the 30 lap main event, Joel started the race from eighth place, and was making his way through the field early in the race. By lap nine, Doiron was inside the top five, but fell to sixth as the race approached halfway. In the closing laps, the handling on the car started to go away, and Doiron would fall back to finish ninth.

“It wasn’t the kind of run that we were looking for tonight”, says Doiron. “We really struggled in the second half of the race. We will keep working at it though, and hopefully we can get a win soon”.

This coming week, Joel will be back at Cornwall Motor Speedway as the Modified share the spotlight with the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars as they make the inaugural appearance at Cornwall.

As we enter the final weekend of July, Doiron currently sits third in points at Cornwall Speedway, only 14 points out of first in the battle for the coveted Modified championship.

Joel Doiron Scores Top Five Finish at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday

Although racing just one night a week is tough, Joel Doiron and his team are doing just fine with their Cornwall Motor Speedway schedule. With his top five finish this past Sunday at Cornwall, he has moved to second place in track points, and is now only four points out of the lead in the battle for the 2012 Cornwall championship.

After a fourth place finish in his qualifying heat, Doiron made some changes to the car in preparation for the 30 lap main event. He rolled off the starting grid from inside row five in the ninth position. The first caution of the night came four laps into the race and Doiron had moved up one spot to eighth. The second caution period took place on lap 12, and Joel had worked his way up to sixth, poised to move into the top five. Doiron would end the night with a solid fourth place finish.

“The car was good, but we just needed to be a little better, but we are getting there”, says Doiron. “We are having a good season, and hopefully we can get a win here soon”.

Doiron will be back at Cornwall Speedway this Sunday night. He also hopes to make a return visit to Mohawk Raceway once again in the coming weeks, and would like to visit Can Am Motorsports Park at some point during the 2012 season.

“We want to get out a do a little traveling as time permits”, says Doiron. “The family has a lot of history at Can Am, and we would love to get there and race sometime this season if at all possible”.

Joel Doiron Remains in Championship Contention With Top Five Finish at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday Night

With a top five finish last Sunday at Cornwall Motor Speedway, Joel Doiron and his race team are currently tied for second place in track points, and sit only 24 points out of the points lead in the battle for the coveted Cornwall Speedway championship. Doiron is a former champion at Cornwall, taking the top honors in 2002, and a decade later, he is hoping to get his second.

Doiron began the night at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday with a third place finish in his qualifying heat, after starting fifth. In the 30 lap main event, he rolled off the starting grid from inside the fifth row in ninth place. After a caution on lap two, Doiron began to move forward, and as the race approached halfway he was up to fifth place. He maintained that position for the duration of the race.

“The car was pretty good out there again tonight”, says Doiron after the race. “The competition is really tough out here, and there were a lot of good cars starting up front, so it makes it tough”.

This coming week, Doiron is hoping to return to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, and will be at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night looking to close the gap on the point leader.

Joel Doiron Gets Impressive Top Ten Finish at Cornwall Speedway Big Block Super DIRTcar Series Race

With the Big Block Modifieds in action at Cornwall on Sunday, Joel Doiron was hoping for a strong run, using the experience at his home track to his advantage against the more powerful Big Blocks.

Doiron got off to a slow start at Cornwall, failing to make the field through the qualifying heats, and having to come from the consolation race to make the 100 lap main event. Starting from 21st, Joel had a long way to go, but as the laps counted down, Doiron was getting faster. At lap 40 he was inside the top ten, and continued to advance his position over the next several laps. With 60 laps complete, he was up to eighth, and maintained that spot through the remaining laps.

“It was tough out there tonight”, says Doiron after the race. “These Big Block Modified guys are fun to race with. “We did well after starting so far back in the field. It would have been nice to have a better starting spot, but we worked hard, and got the best finish that we could”.

This coming week, Doiron will be back at Cornwall as regular racing resumes. He currently is second in track points at Cornwall, only 18 points out of the top spot.

“We really want to get that championship this year”, says Doiron. “We know its going to be challenging, and it will come right down to the final week, but that is our goal from this season right from the beginning, and I know we have the equipment and the team to do it”.
