2013 Season in Review; Joel Doiron’s 2013 Season Had Some Frustrating Moments; Team Looks Ahead to Much Better Season in 2014

There is no question that the 2013 season did not pan out as expected for Joel Doiron and his race team. Without a doubt, Doiron will be back as strong as ever when the season starts in May of 2014, as the work has already begun in their Alexandria, Ontario race shop as they rebuild for a new season.

Doiron started the season strong, posting a 3rd place finish on opening night at Mohawk Raceway, and followed that up with a 6th place effort on his next visit. At Cornwall Speedway, the season started late due to consecutive rainouts, and rain plagued the track much of the season. Once the season did get underway, Doiron started with back to back 7th place results, before bad luck hit the team during the Canada Day doubleheader weekend. Doiron didn’t qualify for the race on Monday due to a lineup error for the last chance consolation race, which took the team out of championship contention for the remainder of the season.

“It really was a frustrating season for all of us”, says Doiron. “The first several weeks of the season was rained out at Cornwall, and when we finally did get to race, the track was not in great shape with all the rain they had”, commented Doiron.

Despite the frustrations, Doiron did post top 10 results in 12 of the 18 races that they competed in. The season was highlighted by a pair of 3rd place finishes, and a total of five top five results.

“We plan to come back strong in 2014. We haven’t decided on a schedule at this point, as we are waiting to see what we have for sponsors and what the track schedules look like”.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Steering Issues Halts Joel Doiron’s Qualifying Efforts at Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday Night; Brockville’s Fall Nationals Will End 2013 Season

When Joel Doiron and his 358 Modified team arrived at Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday night, they were hoping for a solid run in the 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series event. Despite the disadvantage with his Small Block against the more powerful Big Block counterparts, Doiron was hopeful that a dry slick racing surface would help even the playing field.

After posting the seventh fastest speed in his time trial session, Doiron would start his heat race from that same position. He was unable to make up any ground, and would have to race his way into the event from the last chance consolation race. Doiron was running well, maintaining a transfer spot throughout the early stages of the 10 lap event, but steering issues would bring Doiron to a stop on the outside of turn four, and he would be unable to continue.

Doiron will have some time off now before ending the season in one month at Brockville Speedway for their annual 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals on October 18th to 20th. Doiron had an impressive third place finish in this same event last season, and will be looking to build on that this time around.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Joel Doiron Gets Top 10 Finish in 125 Lap DIRTcar Series Event at Cornwall Speedway’s Season Finale; Mohawk Raceway DIRTcar Series Race Next Week

The 2013 racing season has seen some difficult moments for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based race team. Although the season had not gone the way they had hoped, they were looking for a strong finish to the year at Cornwall with a 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar Series/Canadian Nationals Series event. Doiron also raced at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night with a 50 lap Frenchie’s 358 Modified Series race on the schedule.

The weekend started off on Friday night at Mohawk Raceway. Doiron started his heat race from fourth place, and worked his way up to third place before the checkered flag. The 50 lap main event was up next, and Joel started from the tenth position. It was a struggle trying to find some grip on the dry and slick track conditions, and when the dust settled at the end of the night, the team was credited with a 12th place result.

“It certainly wasn’t the finish that we had wanted”, says Doiron. “We have only run here a few times this year, and that puts us at a bit of a disadvantage against guys that are here each week. It was a good experience though, and hopefully we can learn something for when we come back here in a couple weeks for the DIRTcar Series race”.

The 2013 season finale at Cornwall Speedway took place on Sunday night, with a 125 lap DIRTcar Series race for the 358 Modifieds. The race also counted towards the final round of the Canadian Nationals Series. Doiron struggled early in the night in time trials, and had to qualify for the main event through the last chance qualifier. He started from the 23rd position in the 125 lap main event, and was moving forward before a flat tire sent him to the pits on lap 18. After returning to the track, Doiron once again started working his way forward, and with the checkered flag waving on lap 125, Doiron was up to eighth place.

“It was a pretty good run, considering we had to come from the back twice”, says Doiron after the race. “We just simply have to qualify better for these big races. I want to thank everyone for their support throughout the season here at Cornwall and we look forward to finishing out the season strong”.

Doiron will have this weekend off, but will return to action on Friday, September 13th at Mohawk Raceway for their Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series race. The 2013 season will conclude on Saturday, October 19th as part of the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals. Doiron had an impressive third place finish in this event last year, and hopes to have similar success in 2013.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Mike Sauvé Construction, Au Vieux Duluth, Doiron Auto Inc., Mister Sew and Sew Custom Embroidery, W.H. Joel Doiron Gets Top Five Finish at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday Night

With the 2013 season dwindling down, Joel Doiron and his race team have been searching for some good luck. The 2013 season has been one of frustration, but the team is looking to end the year at their home track on a positive note. Doiron was back in action at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, and back to their usual weekly home at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

On Friday night at Mohawk Raceway, Doiron had problems early and was unable to make the call for his ten lap qualifying heat race. This put him at the rear of the 20 car field for the 25 lap main event later in the evening. Joel made some progress throughout the race, and ultimately ended with an 11th place result.

The action continued at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night, and Joel and the team were looking to finally put an end to some of the bad luck that has affected the team much of the season. After starting fourth in his qualifying heat race, Doiron moved up to third place before the checkered flag in the 10 lap event. The team made some adjustments to the car for the 30 lap feature, and lined up on the inside of row three in the fifth starting spot. Doiron remained in the top five throughout the race, racing his way to third at one point before settling in to a fourth place finish.

“It was a good run for us tonight. After the last couple weeks that is all we really wanted was a solid night and bring the car home in one piece”, explains Doiron after the race. “Hopefully we get back here in a couple weeks we can have a solid run in the Canadian Nationals race, and end the year on a positive note”.

Doiron plans to race at Mohawk International Raceway again this Friday night. Cornwall Speedway does not have the Modifieds on the schedule this week. They will return on Sunday, September 1st with a 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar Series/Canadian Nationals Series event.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Joel Doiron Scores Impressive Top Five Finish in Canadian Nationals Series Event #2 at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday Night

The first few months of the 2013 racing season have not gone as planned for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based 358 Modified race team. Their home track at Cornwall Speedway has battled Mother Nature all year long, losing over half the season so far to rain. When the have raced, they have had fast cars, but have been a victim of bad luck on several occasions.

After a disappointing sixth place finish in his qualifying heat race, Doiron would have to come from the rear of the field in the 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series event at Cornwall on Sunday night. As the race progressed, Doiron’s car got better and better. Doiron cracked the top ten for the first time on lap 74, and came on strong over the final 26 circuits, advancing to fifth place before the checkered flag.

“The car was great by the end of the race”, claims Doiron after the 100 lap race. “I really have to thank the crew for all their hard work getting the car running better for the feature, as we really struggled during the qualifier”.

Doiron and his team plan to make their debut at Le RPM Speedway in St. Marcel, Quebec on Saturday night with twin 40 lap features on the schedule. He will return to Cornwall Speedway again this Sunday night looking for their first win of the 2013 season.

Joel Doiron Battles to an 11th Place Finish After Tough Night at Cornwall

After scoring a third place finish last week at Cornwall Speedway, Joel Doiron and his team were looking forward to getting back to the track this week, hoping for an event better result. With the weather finally starting to turn for the better, the team also hoped that the track conditions would be improved greatly from the previous races this year.

The night started off with a second place finish in the qualifying heat race after starting from the fourth position. After some adjustments to the car, Joel hit the track for the 30 lap main event, rolling off the starting grid from the eighth position on the outside of the fourth row. Doiron received some damage in a lap nine incident that brought out the red flag, and had to make a pit stop for some quick repairs before returning to the track for the restart. When the race resumed, Doiron drove his wounded car to an 11th place finish.

“It was another frustrating night here at Cornwall”, says Doiron after the race. “We had some damage there after that wreck early in the race, and just missed the top ten. We will be back next week and hopefully it will be a better night”.

Doiron and his team will return to Cornwall Speedway again this Sunday night looking for their first win of the 2013 season.

Joel Doiron Scores Impressive Third Place Finish at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday Night; Another Top Fen Finish on Friday at Mohawk Raceway

It was another busy weekend for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based race team, with a trip to Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Friday night, as well as the usual visit to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

With three top six finishes in his three previous starts at Mohawk Raceway this season, Doiron was optimistic that they would continue to improve the car’s setup and have another strong finish. He started at the back of the 10 lap qualifying heat race, and moved up to fifth before the checkered flag. After making some adjustments on the car, Joel returned to the track for the 25 lap feature starting from the 14th position. The car worked well at the start of the run, but after a few laps, they would go away, and Doiron found himself searching for some grip on the track. He climbed into the top ten late in the race, and crossed the finish line in eighth place.

“We salvaged a decent finish tonight, but we just missed it on the tire selection and set up”, says Doiron after the race. “The car would go pretty good at the start of the run, and once the heat built up in the tires, we really struggled”.

At Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, the weather finally co-operated to get the entire show in without any issues. Joel finished fourth in his qualifying heat race, and returned to the pits for some changes in time for the night’s 30 lap feature. Doiron started from the eighth starting spot. By lap ten, he was up to third place, and was challenging for second. Doiron would finish the race in third place.

"It was a good run for us tonight”, says Doiron. “The track conditions were still pretty treacherous in spots, and I think that really hurt us from advancing any further. A couple times we got close to the second place car, and he got into the water on the inside of the track, and we had to be really careful”.

Doiron and his team will return to Cornwall Speedway again this Sunday night looking for their first win of the 2013 season.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Joel Doiron Scores Fifth Place Finish in Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series Race at Mohawk Raceway; Cornwall Speedway Cancelled Again

After a frustrating weekend of racing last week at Cornwall Speedway for the Canada Day Weekend doubleheader, Joel Doiron returned to action this weekend, with a trip to Mohawk International Raceway for a 50 lap Frenchie’s Series race on Friday night, followed by the usual Sunday night program at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

Doiron started the night off with a second place finish in his qualifying heat race, making the redraw for the 50 lap main event. The top 12 starting positions were up for grabs in the redraw, and Joel pulled the number three position and lined up on the inside of the second row to start the race. Doiron was fast early, maintaining his second place position through the opening 10 laps of the race. With the caution out on lap 24 just prior to the halfway point, Joel had been maintaining a top five position and continued to hold that spot through the duration of the event.

“It was a good run for us, but we are little bit off of what some of these other guys are doing”, says Doiron. “Overall it wasn’t a bad night, and we can build on this for when we return here in a few weeks”.

Doiron planned to race at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night, but for the fifth time this season, Mother Nature had other plans, and track officials were forced to cancel their program after an early afternoon rain set in.

Doiron plans to race at Mohawk Raceway again this Friday night and will return to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night, hoping the weather will co-operate once again. The Speedway has seen an extraordinary amount of rain over the past couple months, and has played havoc on the surface of the track.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Joel Doiron Overcomes Slow Start and Rough Track Conditions to Score Sixth Place Finish on Opening Night at Cornwall Speedway

After getting rained out for three consecutive weeks, Joel Doiron and his team were finally able to start the 2013 season at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night. Although the track conditions were less than ideal after all the rain this area as seen over the past few days leading up to Sunday, in addition to the rain the past month that has kept the Speedway idle the first three scheduled weeks of the season.

Like many tracks on opening night, the starting lineup for the qualifying heat races were determined by a random draw. Unfortunately for Doiron, a high number put him at the back of his qualifying heat race, and he was unable to gain much ground. He would be relegated to the last chance consolation race in order to make the 24 car starting field. A fourth place finish earned Doiron a spot in the 30 lap main event, and would fire from near the rear of the field in 21st starting position. At the drop of the green flag, Doiron pressed forward, and as the race reached the halfway point he was edging towards the top ten. With the track conditions the way they were due to the rain, passing was at a premium and Doiron was one of the few cars that started near the back that were able to move forward. As the race ended, Joel crossed the finish line with a very solid seventh place finish.

“It was a tough night out there for sure, and we are real happy to come out of here with the finish that we did”, says Doiron. “Hopefully we can get some better weather this coming week and help dry the place out some and next week will be much better for all of us”.

This coming weekend, Doiron will be back at Cornwall Motor Speedway looking to build on there top ten finish from opening night. It will also be driver autograph night giving fans a chance to get up close to the drivers and their cars during the intermission on Sunday night.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Joel Doiron Gets Sixth Place Finish at Mohawk International Raceway 50 Lap Memorial Cup Event; Cornwall Speedway Rained Out for Third Consecutive Week

It has been nearly impossible for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based team to gain any momentum in the early stages of the 2013 season. Looking back over the last month, they have had a test session at Mohawk Raceway cancelled due to rain, and now the first three events at Cornwall Motor Speedway have all been wiped off the schedule due to Mother Nature.

During the month of May, Doiron did get two races in and after a solid third place finish on opening night, they returned this past Friday night for the 50 lap Memorial Cup race that was also the first race in the Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Modified Series. The night started well for Doiron, as he started on the front row of the 10 lap preliminary qualifier and checked out on the field cruising to the win by more than a straightaway. The win earned him a spot in the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the night’s main event and he would start from the inside of row three in the fifth position. Doiron maintained that position through much of the race and when the dust settled at the end of the night he was in sixth place.

“The car was really good early tonight in the heat race”, says Doiron. “We struggled a bit in the feature, especially in the second half of the race, but we were able to bring the car home in one piece in sixth place so it wasn’t a bad night. We were just a little bit off on the setup and that is all it takes with the competition as tough as it is here at Mohawk”.

The 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race on Sunday was postponed for the third consecutive week on Sunday. That race will now take place on Canada Day Monday and will also be a Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series race. This Monday race will make for an exciting weekend doubleheader with the 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series already on the schedule for Sunday, June 30th.

Our racing efforts for the 2013 season would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners. Joel Doiron Scores Third Place Finish on Opening Night at Mohawk International Raceway; Cornwall Opening Night 100 Lap Event Postponed to This Sunday

After a long off-season, Joel Doiron finally got the 2013 racing season underway this past weekend. First up was the opening night event’s at Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York, followed by the 100 lap Mr. DIRTcar Series/Canadian Nationals Series opener at Cornwall Speedway.

At Mohawk Raceway, Doiron started his 10 lap qualifying heat race from the fourth position, and quickly moved forward, taking the lead before completing lap two. He remained in the top spot and took the victory in the preliminary event. By winning the third heat race, Doiron earned the third starting position for the 25 lap main event. At the end of the 25 lap event, Doiron maintained that third place result.

“It was a good way to start the year with a strong run like that”, says Doiron. “Hopefully the next time we come back here, we will be able to work on the setup some more and be up there battling for the win”.

The Cornwall Speedway season opener was set for Sunday night, and was going to be a big night with the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series/Canadian Nationals Series 100 lap event on the schedule. Rain halted any plans on this night, as track officials were forced to postpone the 100 lap race until this coming Sunday night. The DIRTcar Series portion of the program will now tag onto the Canadian Nationals Series race scheduled for August 4th.

Joel Doiron Ready to Get 2013 Racing Season Underway; Busy Saturday Planned With Test Day at Mohawk Raceway and First Race of 2013 at Brockville Speedway

After a long off-season, and a few weeks of displaying his brand new Bicknell Modified at various local events, Joel Doiron and his team are ready to get the 2013 racing season underway. Like previous seasons, Doiron will call Cornwall Speedway his home track, but he hopes to make a few excursions to other tracks, such as opening night at Brockville Speedway this coming Saturday night.

Doiron plans to get some laps in at Mohawk International Raceway early on Saturday afternoon, before packing up and heading to Brockville Speedway for their season opener on Saturday night. After finishing third in the season finale last year at Brockville in the Mr. DIRTcar Series race, Doiron is hoping to pick up right where he left off last October.

“We have had some good finishes at Brockville in the past, I really do enjoy racing there when we can”, says Doiron. “We are committed to racing at Cornwall weekly again this season, and will try to get out to other tracks when time permits. After our good run here last fall, we are anxious to get back to Brockville and see what we can do”.

After this weekend, Joel will focus his attention on the upcoming season at Cornwall Motor Speedway. They open up on Sunday, May 19th with a 100 lap Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series event and also counts towards the Canadian Nationals Series championship.

Champion Motor Oil’s zinc and phosphorous formulas are designed to deliver the correct balance of chemistry to protect vintage, high performance, and racing engines, especially those using flat tappet and roller cams operating at high RPM's and requiring high-pressure valve springs. These multi-grade synthetic oils contain Champion’s proprietary TVS® (Thermal Viscosity Stabilizer) which extends oil film capacity for better protection at high temperatures.

Champion’s Racing and Performance Motor Oils also contain special lubricity modifiers to reduce friction, and unlock the full potential of any engine by providing increased compression, horsepower and torque.
