The 2014 season has certainly not gone according to plan for Joel Doiron. At the start of the season, they had planned to race two nights a week; Mohawk International Raceway on Friday nights, and Cornwall Speedway on Sundays. Mohawk International Raceway has battled Mother Nature virtually every week, and when they do race, Doiron has battled bad luck.
Doiron was back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night and finally under sunny conditions. In the qualifying heat race, Doiron started fourth, and worked his way forward to finish second. However, a problem with the engine was soon detected, and Doiron was unable to continue. He did start the race in a borrowed Gilles Godard Sportsman in order to salvage some points on an otherwise disappointing night.
Ovide Doiron worked virtually non-stop from Friday night through Sunday building a new motor from scratch, getting ready for Sunday night at Cornwall. It started off looking like it was going to be a good night. Joel posted the second fastest speed in the opening practice session, and backed that up with a win in his qualifying heat race. As the team was preparing for the first of two 40 lap features on the night, tragedy struck on the race track as Danny Lefebvre was involved in a fatal collision on the track. The race was postponed and both features will be made up before the regular program on Sunday, July 6th.
Doiron will return to action on Friday night at Mohawk International Raceway and will be back at Cornwall Speedway this coming Sunday night for a 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series race.

Joel Doiron Battles to 6th Place Finish in Frenchie’s 50 Lap Season Opener at Mohawk Raceway; Another Top Ten Finish on Sunday at Cornwall Speedway
After getting rained out the first two scheduled weeks of the season at Mohawk Raceway, Joel Doiron and his team were finally able to get their season started at their second weekly track in 2014. Doiron was also back at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday looking for a strong finish.
At Mohawk Raceway, Doiron began the night with a third place run in his qualifying heat race, making the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the 50 lap main event. Doiron started from the seventh position and had made his way to third by the time the first caution was displayed on lap six. Doiron continued in the top five through the first half of the race, and maintained that position through the final caution of the night on lap 41. When the race resumed, Doiron fell back one spot and he crossed the finish line in fourth place.
“It was a pretty good run, we just need to be a little bit better”, says Doiron. “We will keep working at it here, and hopefully we can get the car dialed in before long”.
The next race on the schedule came at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night. The qualifying heat race was a struggle for Doiron, and the team made some changes to the car before getting back on track for the 30 lap main event later in the event. Doiron started from the 11th position, and advanced to eighth as they completed lap 10. Doiron battled fuel issues all night affecting the car’s performance. He would end the night with a 10th place finish.
This coming weekend, Doiron and the 358 Modified division will have the night off on Friday at Mohawk, so the only racing action of the weekend will come on Sunday night at Cornwall Speedway. After three events so far, Doiron is currently 9th in track points, but only 15 points back of fifth place. Being early in 2014, the points are very close still amongst all competitors.
