Joel Doiron Battles to Strong 11th Place Finish with the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series at Cornwall Speedway; Busy Weekend of Racing Coming Up

After another tough weekend at the track last week, Joel Doiron was looking forward to getting back to business and trying to shake off the bad luck that has hit them recently. They were in action on Friday night at Mohawk International Raceway and back to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night for a 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series race.

Doiron began the night at Mohawk with a fast car in the opening practice session. He started third in his qualifier and moved to second before the end of the race. He started the 25 lap feature from the front row, but they struggled in the opening laps and slid back to eighth place by the first caution on lap 12. Just a few laps later, Joel hit pit road and was soon were done for the night.

Sunday night was a big night at Cornwall Speedway with a 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series race on the schedule, bringing in some of the best Modified racers in the Northeast. Doiron was a little off the pace in his group in the opening practice but they made some adjustment and they gained a lot of speed in the time trials, placing second in his group, and earning a front row starting position. A third place finish in the qualifier put Joel in the redraw for a top 12 starting spot for the 100 lap main event in which he drew 9th. It was a solid run for Doiron, maintaining a top 10 position for most of the race despite the disadvantage with his small block against the big block counterparts. Doiron crossed the finish line in 11th place.

“It was a good night for us here tonight racing against the Big Blocks”, states Doiron after the race. The car ran really well, and I had a blast racing side by side with Gary (Tomkins) for most of the race. He is a first class driver”.

Joel Doiron will have a busy weekend coming up, starting with a 50 lap Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series race at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night. Doiron finished sixth in the opening round of the Series on May 30th and will be looking for a strong finish to remain in contention for the championship. Sunday night will be a busy night at Cornwall Speedway with a pair of 40 lap features held over from June 22nd to start the night off before getting into the regular July 6th program.
